Slack

Four rotated lozenges whose negative space resolves into a swastika.

Slack's 2019 redesign, by Pentagram, replaced an eleven-colour hash with four rounded lozenges. Within minutes of the announcement, users pointed out that the negative space at the centre reads as a swastika; by one count, roughly 16% of tweets mentioning Slack over the following days contained the word. The same thread produced the anatomical readings. Nothing here was intended, and the point is not that anyone did something wrong — it is that the shape does what it does regardless of intent, and the gap between a studio's reading and a stranger's is exactly the gap this site is about.
